Ciara Metcalfe
Dr. Ciara Metcalfe is a Principal Scientist at Genentech, in the Department of Discovery Oncology. She received her undergraduate and Masters training at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, and performed her graduate work at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) at the University of Cambridge, U.K. She joined Genentech, based in South San Francisco, as a postdoctoral fellow. Ciara now leads a research group that studies the biology of tumors and response to therapeutics at the molecular, cellular and tissue level, leveraging the collaborative environment at Genentech to ensure that the labs research is grounded in clinical relevance. Her scientific interests have taken her from Wnt signaling and the intestine, to Hedgehog signaling and medulloblastoma, and more recently to Estrogen Receptor (ER) signaling and breast cancer.
